Frequently Asked Questions

Is the school associated with a particular church or denomination?

The school was started by Cherokee Presbyterian Church in 1986. In 1997, Cherokee Christian School filed for its own separate 501 (c) (3) non profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors. The school reorganized in 2003 into Cherokee Christian Academy and Cherokee Christian High School, under the corporate name Cherokee Christian Schools, Inc.  Day to day operations are run by a Superintendent, a Principal, and various support staff. Cherokee Presbyterian Church maintains representation on the school board to provide spiritual oversight and help ensure the school’s faithfulness to conservative Christian doctrine.

What is your teacher student ratio?

Our policy is to have a maximum of 20 students per class in the Kindergarten and 24 students per class in grades 1-12. However, it is important to note that the actual ratios during the last few school years have remained under 20. Classes are also supplemented by teacher assistants as follows:

  • Kindergarten and 2nd Grade - One teacher's assistant per class.
  • Grades 3 through 6 - One teacher's assistant per grade.

Are you accredited?

Yes.  On October 26, 2004, we received full accreditation from the Georgia Association of Christian Schools (GACS) through the Georgia Private School Accreditation Council (GAPSAC).  GACS' accreditation is recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for transfer of credits, college entrance, and the HOPE Scholarship Commission making it possible for high school graduates to receive the HOPE Scholarship.

Are all your teachers certified?

All teachers are certified through our accrediting organization (GACS).

What Bible do you use?

We believe that there are many faithful translations of Scripture (Examples: ESV, NAS, KJV, NKJV). Presently, we use the NIV to align with the curriculum used for Bible instruction in K - 12th grade.

Do you have a uniform policy?

Yes. Our uniform policy is designed to afford flexibility to parents while fostering a positive, disciplined learning environment for the students. Click Here for more information.

What is your philosophy for discipline?

Often the word discipline connotes punishment. However, the Bible uses the word discipline for training. Biblical discipline involves taking the time to teach and train in a loving way that everyone is responsible to God for their actions. Actions that dishonor God result in consequences and correction designed to bring the student back to obedience to God. Click Here for more details.

What extracurricular activities do you provide?

We offer organized sports, scouts, band, choir, drama, and more. See our Information Handbook for more details:

What makes you different than the public schools and how do you compare?

There are three major differences. The first difference is Academic. We believe that our curriculum is more rigorous than the government schools and the results of that are reflected in our standardized test comparisons (Click Here for Stanford 10 results).

The second and more important difference is philosophical. We believe that we are in the role of assisting the parent to do their job of educating their child. We are not in charge of your child. Therefore, our system is designed to support the family and not the school system.

Third, and most important, is a spiritual difference. We believe that there can be no true education without Christ as the center. All of science, math, literature, and history, revolves around the sovereign God of the universe. A child who learns without God in their school environment learns to think that God is not necessary in their personal environment. To know God is the most important thing in any person’s life.

Are my donations tax deductible?

How do you maintain security?

Hallways, exterior doors, parking lots, and playground areas are under full-time camera surveillance.  Exterior doors are remained locked during the day.  Visitors must enter through the front lobby where access is electronically controlled to classroom areas.  Fingerprint access devices allow middle/high school students entry between buildings when changing classes.  Security and fire alarms are connected to a central monitoring station.

Do you conduct chapel and if so what do you do?

A 35 minute Chapel is conducted once a week for all grades.  Students are divided into three groups (elementary, middle, and high school). Occasionally the message will be attuned to a particular event in the world or the school. Additionally, we enjoy singing hymns and praise music during Chapel.

What are your prayer needs?

Of course, there are many prayer requests that will come up during the year to fit various situations. However, the following needs are constant:

  • That the teachers, administrators, parents, and children, would seek to know and do the will of God.

  • That the minds of the teachers, administrators, parents, and children be filled with a greater sense and knowledge of God’s holiness.

  • That every child would know Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior.

  • That the staff of CCS would be given wisdom to plan, manage, grow, and teach.

  • That the teachers, administrators, parents, and children, would love to read the Bible and do it every day.

  • That our enrollment period would be fruitful and bring strong Christian families to CCS.

What is the minimum age for kindergarten?

A child must be 5 years of age by September 1.

What is the minimum age for 1st Grade?

A child must be 6 years of age by September 1.

What does Christ-Centered mean?

We do not present a secular education with a "dash" of morality.  Everything that we do and teach is centered on the Truth -the Word of God.  As such, Jesus Christ is the foundation (or center) on which all our efforts are built.
